Background to
Transform Your Career!

Hi - I'm Paul Hogwood and I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and give you some background as to why I set up this site, and how I am uniquely qualified to help.

During many years on the corporate ladder in several different companies, I have noticed more and more how people have reacted to the effects of the company bureaucracy, the people around them and, most of all, their own attitude to work.

More and more, I found I was enjoying two aspects:

a) Programme management and fixing company processes to ensure that departments worked efficiently and together.

b) Helping people - my staff and others outside - to change the way they think and enhance their careers.

Having seen industry, both in manufacturing and services, in good and bad situations, with good and bad management, good and atrocious leadership, I felt I could better help by branching out by myself with direct help to individuals - and companies - everywhere.

I decided to set up P.J.Management Solutions Limited in 2002 in the UK to provide both consultancy to industry and help with career and management issues to individuals.

I created two sites:
  • This one, directed at SMEs and providing a link for consultancy work, advice and articles for the small and medium business manager and entrepreneur
  • And Transform Your Career!, targetted at helping individuals improve their career prospects and achieve a worthwhile and satisfying career.
Because many personal and management development issues are common, some of the pages are shared. In particular, visitors to this site are encouraged to browse the articles that I have researched by clicking here

Paul graduated in 1974 with First Class Honours at the University of St.Andrews.

In 1982 he became a Fellow in Manufacturing Management from Cranfield University, and a Chartered Engineer.

Paul has progressed through a number of managerial positions covering a full range from marketing, sales support, through to procurement, production planning and telecoms planning and implementation, project and programme management. He has held positions in BICC, Marconi, Microvitec, Cable & Wireless and mmO2. He has driven multi-million pound projects and has been instrumental in the adoption of the quality management standard ISO9000 in the days when it was still referred to as BS5750.

He has come across all management styles, from the inspiring leader to the downright crude blustering manager.  It was as a result of his observations and his own involvement in pursuing a personal development agenda for his staff that he decided to find ways of sharing his experience, and so help employees, managers and self employed businessmen and women to progress in their chosen business and career

Paul is active in the Institution of Engineering & Technology, currently Chairman of the Buckinghamshire Branch, and is active in Mentoring members, and co-ordinating the mentoring activities.

He is married with three children, the youngest now at university.
